A lovely walk passing through woods and over farmland with a couple of short lane stretches. We will call at the Fitzherbert Arms for refreshments. An ideal walk for anyone thinking of walking with us for the first time. Walk Leader: Jane 01782 412488 SAT 2 FEB CANNOCK CHASE 8miles, 3.5hrs,Mod Meet at the Cannock Chase visitor centre car park for a 10.30 start. Map ref: SK004153. This walk will show that it is still possible to find peace and tranquillity and open views all on one walk. We will pass through scenic variety and walk on different varied surfaces. Ideal for new walkers and also those who have been considering moving up a grade. Walk Leader: Sharon 01538 755035 SUN 10 FEB BAGNALL. 10miles,5hrs,Mod Meet at Bagnall Hospital for a 10am start, parking in lay-by by hospital walls. Map ref: SJ 925505 Walking through the pretty village of Bagnall down to Stanley Pool, crossing farmland to Cats Edge and down to the canal at Denford. Continue along the canal onto Cheddleton where there are a couple of pubs and a lovely tearoom. This will be our lunch stop area. After lunch we will continue on our way home via farmland. SAT 16 FEB MANCHESTER DAY TRIP Manchester provides a good mix of the old with the new, with plenty for you to see and do during the day. Train departs Stoke at 10.30hrs and the return train departs Manchester at 19:58hrs or earlier if you wish. Cost: £8 return. Organiser: Michal 0792 903 0194 – ring before the night so we know who to wait for at the station! SUN 24 FEB PADLEY GORGE 14miles,8hrs,Hard Meet at Upper Padley Station for an 0900hr start. Map ref: 252788. Our route will be via Hayward onto Froggatt Edge for outstanding views. Steep descent towards Froggatt Bridge where care will be required. Over fields to Grindleford and then make tracks towards River Derwent until we reach Hathersage, where we will have our well earned pub stop. Gradual climb onto Hathersage Moor, quick scramble onto Higger Tor followed by long descent along Burbage Rocks and finally back to the car park. A good pace will be required for the walk. This is the hardest walk on the programme and will be lead by one of our most experienced walkers and walk leaders. If you have been wondering if you should move up and try a hard walk this one will be testing but worth it. Why not give it a try?? We will travel on the Saturday morning and arrive at the YH just before lunch. There will be a short walk in the afternoon before returning to the YH which is of 4star classification. On the Sunday after checking out the YH we will do a full days walk before departing for home. The walks will be of Easy/Moderate to appeal to all level of walkers. Map ref: 177722. The route will take us through Cressbrook Dale, Great Mucklow, Abney Moor, Bradwell, Limestone Way, Monsal Trail and on to Millers Dale. Probably one of the longest walks on the programme, but the terrain will not be too demanding. A good walk for stretching your legs and improving your stamina. SUN 24 MAR WYE DALE 8.5miles, 4.5hrs, Moderate ( some hills ) Meet at Wye Dale car park at Topley Pike on A6, which is approx 3 miles east of Buxton, for a 10am start. Map ref: SK104725 The route will be through Wye Dale, Wormhill, Millers Dale, then onto Teddington, Chelmorton. There will be a definite pub stop at the Church Inn which is at the 6mile point. This is an excellent walk which is in a beautiful part of the country side. Walk leader: Tina 01283 515406 SUN 31 MAR 3 COUNTIES 12miles, 6hrs, Moderate Meet at car park at Derbyshire Bridge of the Buxton /Macclesfield Road for a 1000hrs start. Map ref: 019716. Our route will be by the old track to Buxton, past Stanley Moor reservoir, Gamball Green. We will hopefully stop for lunch at the highest pub in England at around this point. Onto Wicken Falls, 3 Shires Head, Danebower Hollow, Cat & Fiddle and back to Derbyshire Bridge. Walk involves a few moderate climbs but you will be rewarded with good views of Staffs/Derbyshire and Cheshire (weather dependent). Walk leader: Phil 01782 760136 SUN 7 APR CARSINGTON WATER 11miles, 6hrs, Moderate Meet at reservoir car park south of Carsington Village, approximately 8miles north of Ashbourne for a 1000hrs start. Map ref: 249529 Note this is not the main visitor centre. This circuit passes through villages, with undulating terrain and along the reservoir edge. A brilliant walk in gorgeous countryside, one that will appeal to all level of walkers. There is no pub stop on this walk or tearoom so a packed lunch is essential. Map ref: SJ948292. A nice easy walk with a couple of short climbs crossing parkland and meadows, through a couple of pretty villages and returning for a short stretch along the Trent & Mersey Canal. No pub en route so bring a packed lunch as we cannot guarantee the pub at the end will still be serving. This is a lovely walk in daffodil and lambing season. A must! Meet at Beresford Lane. OS ref: SK128586. This walk follows a route through leafy Beresford Dale, into Hartington. From here we walk up to Sheen Hill to enjoy the view from the top. Then onto Alstonefield via Brund, Scaldersditch, where there will be a pub stop. The walk is rounded off along the picturesque river Dove in Wolfscote Dale. Head out to Monsal Head, onto Taddington, Flagg, Monyash, Youlgreave and back to Bakewell. Off we go to Youlgreave YH for a night of rest and relaxation, what a way to end the day. The walk is a challenge in length but not terrain. Come on give it a go and really give those legs a stretch. Route climbs up through woodland, across farmland to the base of the Wrekin and if we are lucky we MAY 02 see a buzzard! Onto the summit going via Hell?s and Heaven?s Gates where we will be rewarded with outstanding views of hopefully Wales, Malverns and Severn Valley amongst others. From there we walk over to Whaley Bridge, where we MAY 02 find time to partake of a pint. We then walk up to Sponds Hill and then on the opposite side of the valley to the start point. Route is through All Stretton, Batch Valley and Callow Hill, back to Church Stretton possibly stopping to look at remains of Brockburst Castle. The view will be worth it, as there are excellent views of Derbyshire and Yorkshire, we also overlook the Howden/Derwentwater reservoir system, where the Dam-busters practiced their skills. We carry on the ridge via back Torr, Flint Hill, Hurkling Edge, down to the smaller Agden and Dale Dike reservoirs, before coming back to Ladybower.
