Saturday, 26th February 2022   MAM TOR    8 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2
Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK171835. The starting point is the Hope car park in Hope. If coming from the west of the village it is on the main A6187 Castleton Road through the village. It is on your right immediately after a bus stop and before the petrol garage on your left. The car park costs £6 and only takes coins but there are public toilets there. Nearest Post code S33 6RS.
The walk starts taking a footpath from the south side of the village that heads towards castleton. We walk through the high street in castleton and then follow the Old Mam Tor Road (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A625_road#Mam_Tor_road) which is closed to motor vehicles to the top of Winnats Pass passing the Blue John Cavern. From here it is a short but steep climb to the summit of Mam Tor (517m above sea level).We then follow the Great Ridge across to Back Tor and Lose Hill before descending into Hope with the opportunity to quaff a fine victory ale. Lunch required.

Points to Remember:
1. Please call the walk leader before the walk in case any details have changed.
2. Make sure that you are suitably dressed for the weather. Remember that some walks are on exposed high land and the weather can be cold and wet. Denim jeans are not suitable for high-level walks.
3. Dogs are welcome but only with the prior agreement of the walk leader
4. If the walk leader decides to shorten the walk then that decision is final and is not open to negotiation. The leader will only do this when there is a good reason for doing so.
5. Even if a walk does not state packed lunch, it is always advisable to bring something to eat and drink.
6. If transport is shared, please provide the driver with a share of the fuel costs.
7. Non RA members are welcome to join us for 3 walks before being asked to join the RA. There are no exceptions to this.
8. Regrettably, due to the nature of the Sunday programme, we are unable to accept children on our these walks.
9. Children are welcome on Family Friendly walks.
