Sunday, 11th January 2009   THREE CAFES OF CANNOCK CHASE    9 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ980175. On the A34 from Stafford to Cannock turn left after the Chetwynd Arms pub on to Camp Road. After about a mile turn left onto Chase Road, if you get to the Germany war cemetery then you've gone too far. Parking is on the Chase Road corner car park located on the first sharp bend.
Our first walk of the year and a gentle start across the undemanding Cannock Chase. We'll be stopping at three cafes and there will probably be cake on offer for those not full up after Christmas! Lunch required.

Sunday, 18th January 2009   CHATSWORTH AND THE EDGES    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK258686. From Bakewell take the A619 towards Chesterfield, turn R onto the B6048 to Pilsey, through the village then R onto the B6012 and through Edensor, park at the Carlton Lees car park on the right before the river.
We will follow the river through Chatsworth Park to Baslow and then ascend upto Wellingtons Monument. We then return along Dobbs Edge and through the woodland of Chatsworth Park. Lunch required.

Sunday, 25th January 2009   ROUND THE WREKIN    7 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ646102. Turn off Junction 7 of the M54. Turn right towards Wellington on the B5061. Turn right towards the Wrekin, Ercall Lane (sign can be difficult to see). Park in the 1st car park on the left after going over the motorway.
Another chance to head round the Wrekin. We'll be starting in the beautiful Ercall Wood wending are way round to the back of the Wrekin. The ascent is quite steep in places but the views of Shropshire from the top are well worth the climb. On the way down we'll hopefully be able to stop in the little cafe area for a warming hot chocolate before heading back to the cars. Lunch required.

Sunday, 1st February 2009   HAWKSMOOR WOOD & THE CHURNET VALLEY    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:15am    Grid Ref: SK032439. From Cheadle take the B5417 towards Oakamoor. After approx 1 mile follow the road around the sharp left hand bend. Pass the minor road on the left and after approx 50m parking is on the left (just on the sharp RH bend)
Starting the walk via Hawksmoor Wood we head towards the river Churnet and follow part of the Churnet Valley railway. An undulating walk (and probably muddy in places!) that should refresh us after the social evening in Newcastle. Lunch required.

Sunday, 8th February 2009   BREWOOD    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 1

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ882088. Park in the signposted public car park in Brewood village centre. The car park is off Stafford Street and the approach road is down the side of the bakery, next right after passing the Spar on your left.
A gentle walk from Brewood and wandering around the surrounding countryside. The start is along the canal, across the famous Thomas Telford aqueduct and a curving route back to the A5. We then wander across some fields to Black Ladies, once a priory. Then sections of road walking past Chillington Hall and back to Brewood. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SO720929. Coming South down the A442 into Bridgnorth, turn right into Severn Street and there is large car park on the right.
We'll be walking beside the River Severn and through the quiet villages of Nordley and Apley Forge. Lunch required.

Sunday, 22nd February 2009   SALT AND THE TRENT AND MERSEY    9 miles  4 hrs   Grade 1

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ957278. Parking on the road within Salt village as no public car park. Meet outside the Holly Bush Pub on the main road. Great Haywood is accessed from the A51 between Stone and Rugeley or off the A518 (Weston Road) or B5066 (Sandon Road) north east of Stafford
We shall walk across fields via Hopton Heath (site of the great battle of Hopton!) to the village of Great Haywood, then return to Salt along the Trent and Mersey Canal. A visit to the Clifford Arms mid route is planned. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ924235. Go along the A34 into Stafford town centre; turn left and follow the two lane carriageway to the next roundabout (ASDA should be in front of you), go around the roundabout and head back the way that you have just come. Car parking is on the left and in a large well signposted public car park.
A relaxing walk taking in the sights and views available around the county town of Stafford. Lunch required.

Sunday, 8th March 2009   HARE HILL & MONK'S HEATH FROM ALDERLEY EDGE    10 miles  4 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ860773. The start point is off the B5087 Macclesfield to Alderley Edge road. Turn right just before the The Wizard restaurant. The car park is National Trust so beware the parking prices !
A spell-binding walk around the myth filled Alderley Edge with its stories of wizards and tales of King Arthur ! Lunch required.

Sunday, 15th March 2009   TWO RIVERS    13 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK127603. From Leek, take the A523 (Ashbourne Rd). Turn left at Bottomhouse onto the B5053 and travel towards Warslow. About half a mile after leaving Warslow turn right onto the B5054 for Hartington. Meet outside the Charles Cotton Hotel (parking is opposite the hotel or on one of the pay and display car parks in Hartington).
This walk takes in the upper reaches of the Dove and Manifold rivers. Starting at Hartington we travel parallel to the Dove, and then ascend Hitter Hill, before making our way to Parkhouse Hill. Crossing the Dove, we return via Longnor (chance of liquid refreshment), following the route of the Manifold as it meanders through the Staffordshire countryside. Lunch required.

Sunday, 22nd March 2009   WOLFSCOTE DALE    13 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK106592. From Leek take the A523. Turn left on the B5053 and head towards Warslow. The road forks, head right on the B5054. Parking on the right at the Manifold Inn.
We will be walking the stretch of the river Dove that winds southwards from Hulme End flows through the steep limestone cliffs of Wolfscote Dale, which is just as magnificent, but less busy than the more famous Dove Dale. The return route along the Manifold follows a path that has been created from the former trackbed of the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway. At the end we will have a well deserved pint in the Manifold Inn. Lunch required.

Sunday, 29th March 2009   KINDER SCOUT    11 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK047869. Follow the A6 from Buxton to Chapel-en-le-Firth. From Chapel follow the A624 to Hayfield. In Hayfield follow Bank Street and Kinder Road (approx 1 mile) to the car park at Bowden Bridge.
We will ascend via Mount Famine & Brown Knoll (or Oaken Clough) to the Kinder Plateau. Weather permitting we will aim to cross the plateau to finally reach Kinder Downfall (be prepared for difficult terrain and peat bogs!). We will return via the picturesque William Clough & Kinder reservoir. Lunch required.

Sunday, 5th April 2009   CONSALL WOOD AND CAULDON CANAL    6 miles  4 hrs   Grade 1

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ994483. Meet at the Consall Nature Park Visitors Centre. From Leek take the A520 towards Wetley Rocks. Then take the A522, and after about half a mile turn left onto Consall Lane and follow the signs for the Nature Park. Ample free parking.
This will be a pleasant walk through a previously industrial area that has now been turned over to nature and holds the honour of being a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest' for being the largest area of semi-natural woodland in Staffordshire. The walk will also take us along the Cauldon Canal and there will be a refreshment stop at either a pub or a tea room towards the end of the walk. Lunch required.

Friday, 10th April 2009   COASTAL WALKING IN PEMBROKESHIRE    3 nights    Grade 2
A coastal weekend which has panoramic views of the Blue Flag sandy beach of Poppit Sands. Bottlenose dolphins, seals and porpoise may be seen and can be spotted right outside the door ! Horseriding, cycling, birdwatching, fishing and boat trips are all available in the area if you fancy something other than walking.

Sunday, 19th April 2009   THE FOUR DALES    10 miles  4 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK125605. From Leek take the A523 (to Derby/Ashbourne A52), and at a crossroads turn left onto the B5053 (signposted Longnor). Keep going and after going through Warslow, take a right onto onto the B5054 (signposted Hartington). Once in Hartington, park up and meet in the square.
An attractive river, limestone buttresses and graceful trees are the features of this walk through some of the Peak District's most attractive scenery. Lunch required.

Saturday, 2nd May 2009   MAY BANK HOLIDAY IN THE HOMELAND (WHITBY)    3 nights    Grade 3
The usual sort of format, although me must try not to go 'all out' on the first night! Friday night - arrive. Saturday will be a 15 mile-ish walk starting from Whitby along the Cleveland Way down to Robin Hoods Bay and then back along the old railway track. It is very 'up and down' and can be muddy. Sunday, will be something more leisurely on the moors around 8 miles. Monday...anyone fancy surfing in the morning? We will be staying at the youth hostel in Whitby. Obviously cause you are up north, beer and chips 'n' gravy are compulsory.

Sunday, 10th May 2009   CANNOCK CHASE WAR WALK    8 miles  5 hrs   Grade 1

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ979190. Follow signs to Brocton from the A513 at Milford Common. In Brocton take turning at The Village Green onto the Chase heading towards the Glacial Boulder, road goes up a hill (called Chase Road). Car park is first on the left after a quarry marked Coppice Hill Car Park.
A pleasant days walk over the Chase visiting some of the areas used during the war and memorials such as Freda's, Katyn and German War Cemetery. Then heading back along the scenic Sherbrook Valley to the cars. Lunch required.

Sunday, 17th May 2009   THE ROACHES AND LUDS CHURCH    8 miles  4 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK004620. Follow the A53 through Blackshaw Moor. Follow the road marked the Rock Inn and park on the road near Hen Cloud.
This is a scenic walk taking in The Roaches. We shall also be venturing to Luds Church, reputedly the place where Gawain fought the Green Knight in Arthurian legend ! Lunch required.

Sunday, 31st May 2009   GRADBACH AND AROUND    9 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ997662. Take the A53 Leek to Buxton road. Coming from Leek pass the Roaches and take the next left to Gradbach. Follow the road and parking is on the right hand side before you get to the youth hostel.
Starting from Gradbach we'll wander across Three Shires Head ... past the Lord of the Roaches and return via Luds Church. Lunch required.

Sunday, 7th June 2009   CHROME HILL AND PARKHOUSE HILL    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK089649. Take the A53 out of Leek towards Buxton. The road to Longnor is sign posted; it's the first right turn after The Winking Man pub. Parking is free in front of the Craft Centre, Longnor, but spaces are limited.
Leaving Longnor, we will walk round Hollins Hill, over Chrome Hill and scramble up Parkhouse Hill. Beautiful views and a couple of pubs to choose from in Longnor. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SO358978. From Shrewsbury, take the A488 and turn left at Ploxgreen. Continue through Snailbeach and Pennerley, and park at the large car park near The Bog visitor centre.
A pleasant walk across the Stiperstones and Adstone Hill, with the possibility of a pint in the village of Bridges, half-way round, and tea and scones on our return to The Bog. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK141139. Parking is on the British Waterways car park at Fradley Junction. Following the A513 from Kings Bromley, turn right opposite Orgreave towards Fradley, then turn right immediately after the canal bridge to reach the Birtish Waterways car park.
A gentle walk through Fradley and Alrewas returning along the Trent and Mersey Canal to Fradley Junction for post walk refreshments at the pub or cafe.

Sunday, 28th June 2009   BACK TOR FROM LADYBOWER RESERVOIR    11 miles  5 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK172893. Go north from Hope Valley on the A6013 cross over the reservoir and turn left on to the A57. Cross another bridge over the reservoir and turn right off the A57 to follow the minor road that runs up the side of the reservoir. The walk will start from the Visitor's Centre Car Park by the dam. Visitor's Centre Parking is Pay and Display, but there two or three free parking areas by the side of road before you reach the Visitor's Centre.
A nice bit of up with superb views of Ladybower Reservoir from Back Tor and Lost Lad. Lunch required.

Sunday, 5th July 2009   HANCHURCH HILLS AND SWYNNERTON    12 miles  7 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SJ868405. Take the A34 Stone to Trentham Road. Follow the signs for Trentham Gardens and parking.
The walk starts at Trentham Gardens, as this has parking and other facilities. A footpath through a golf course leads under the M6 and gives access to the wooded Hanchurch Hills. Here a series of tracks with a few field-paths lead to the village of Swynnerton with its inn. Further tracks and lanes lead to a climb over the hills to the west of Trentham and an easy return. Lunch required.

Start Time: 1:00pm    Grid Ref: SJ865410. Meet at 1.00pm at the garden centre entrance by the main car park for a 4 mile (max) walk to the monument and then back again to Trentham Park for a BBQ at 4.00pm onwards. Park near the church SJ865410 for the BBQ.
A short walk to the monument to gain good views over the nearby parkland. Then we start the BBQ in Trentham Park. DON'T FORGET TO BRING FOOD, BEER AND FUEL !!!

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK018758. From Buxton take the A5004, then turn left down Goyt's Lane. Meet at the car park opposite the bridge by Errwood Reservoir.
A pleasant walk up to the mysterious Combs Edge and back to Errwood Reservoir, with the possibility of a pub stop halfway for lunch. Lunch required.

Start Time: 12 noon    Grid Ref: SK027476. A pleasant stroll through the woodland and along the canal in the area around Froghall Wharf and Foxt.
From Cellarhead follow the A52 easterly through Kingsley Moor and Kingsley towards Froghall. Having crossed over the railway bridge go straight passed the first left hand turn (the B5053 to Ipstones) and take the second turn on the left, which will take you directly to the car park at Froghall Wharf picnic area. Lunch required.

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SJ988699. From Leek take the A523 (Macclesfield Rd). At the Bosley Crossroads, turn right onto the A54. Just before Algreave, turn left towards Wildboarclough. Park at the picnic area next to Clough House.
A walk across moorland and through woods, taking in three of the most popular peaks in the area: Shining Tor, Tegg's Nose and Shutlingsloe. Lunch required.

Sunday, 26th July 2009   KINDER SCOUT FROM EDALE    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SK123853. Meet in Pay and Display car park near Edale Station. Parking is limited and expensive so it's definitely worth car sharing.
From the car park we follow Grindsbrook then up Golden Clough (bit of a scramble) to the moor. We traverse the moor, picking up the Pennine way and descending via Jacobs Ladder. Lunch required.

Sunday, 2nd August 2009   CHATSWORTH FROM BAKEWELL    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK217685. Take the A53 from Leek to Buxton, and then the A6 to Bakewell. Parking is on the large main car park, located by driving over the old bridge and turning right.
This walk takes to the hills east of Bakewell to see the Duke of Devonshire's famous stately home of Chatsworth. We visit Edensor, then walk up to the hunting tower, across to Beeley, then return to Bakewell via Calton Houses. Lunch required.

Sunday, 9th August 2009   THE MONSAL TRAIL (AS SEEN ON TV!)    10 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 11:00am    Grid Ref: SK104726. Meet at Wye Dale car park (charge payable), 3 miles east of Buxton along the A6 towards Bakewell.
We will follow the course of part of the closed Manchester to London Midland railway through the Peak District now called the Monsal Trail. There are several diversions away from the old trackbed due to closed tunnels including the beautiful Chee Dale valley and its 'stepping stones'. At about 6 miles we cross over the spectacular Monsal Viaduct before climbing up to Monsal Head for great views over the Wye Valley. The final part of the walk drops gently down in to the capital of the Peak District - Bakewell- where there will be time for a pint before catching the bus back to Topley Pike car park (bus fare payable) arr. 16.45. Lunch required.

Start Time: 11:00am    Grid Ref: SJ993603. Leave Leek on the A53 towards Buxton, turn left at the Three Horseshoes Pub and follow the road down to Tittesworth, meeting in the pay and display car park.
A leisurely stroll around the reservoir which is on the edge of the National Park, finishing up with an excursion to the tea shop on site!

Sunday, 16th August 2009   DANE VALLEY & WINCLE FROM RUSHTON SPENCER    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ936624. Go along the A523 to Macclesfield from Leek. After 5 miles, you will come to a right-to-left turn to Rushton Spencer village (along Sugar Street). Take this and on entering the village get to the car park which is situated by 'The Knot Inn' in Rushton Spencer.
A brisk ramble winding its way through the Dane Valley before climbing through woods and fields to Wincle Minn. After enjoying the rewarding views the return follows the canal back to the start. Lunch required.

Sunday, 23rd August 2009   BRADFORD AND LATHKILL DALES FROM YOULGREAVE    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK205641. From Buxton take the A515, and, after about seven miles, turn left towards Youlgreave. Parking is on the smallish free car park at the entrance to the village.
A stroll around two of the most picturesque dales in the Peak District, along the tranquil banks of the rivers Bradford and Lathkill. Lunch required.

Friday, 28th August 2009   LAKE DISTRICT - KESWICK CAMPING    3 nights    Grade 3
Why not come and spend the August Bank Holiday camping with us in the Lake District. We will be staying at Lanefoot Farm Campsite near Keswick (which allows us to book in advance and so avoid disappointment). Blencathra is likely to be on itinerary, along with a few pints at the pub down the road. Things might get competitive with a bit of crazy golf, or possibly swing through trees in the adventure course near the campsite. [Now fully booked!]

Sunday, 6th September 2009   CROMFORD WHARF TO THE CRICH MONUMENT    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SK301571. From Buxton take the A515 and then A5012 to Cromford. Park at Cromford Wharf.
A pleasant stroll from Cromford Wharf to the Crich memorial tower (and pub!) via woodland and Florence Nightingale's former house. We'll return along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. Lunch required.

Saturday, 12th September 2009   RUDYARD CIRCULAR    5 miles  2 hrs   Grade 1

Start Time: 10:30am    Grid Ref: SJ957578. If you are heading from Leek Road, head to the main roundabout outside Rudyard village and turn right down the hill and park by the main station on the minature railway.
A brief but enjoyable walk around Rudyard Lake and surrounds. We finish at the teashop for a beverage and cake and to take in the view (if it's not too cold and wet !).

Sunday, 13th September 2009   TADDINGTON & THE MONSAL TRAIL (BACK TO FRONT & UPSIDE DOWN)    15 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SK103725. Take the A6 out of Buxton, sign posted for Bakewell. Look out for a car park on your left, signed posted as "Wye Dale Car Park" (it's opposite the entrance to a quarry).
After last month's linear Monsal Trail walk, here's the circular version with hills. We'll also be taking in Chelmorton, Sough Top, Taddington, and Deep Dale. Lunch required.

Sunday, 20th September 2009   FLASH AND THE RIVER DANE    13 miles  7 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SJ997662. From the A53 turn left into Flash Village and bear left at the fork, follow the road round a sharp right hand turn and take the third left (towards Gradbach Youth Hostel). Parking is on the right hand side in approximately 1/2 a mile.
We walk through Flash, 3 Shires Head, Wildboarclough, to Danebridge and back via Luds Church. Lunch required.

Sunday, 4th October 2009   BASLOW EDGE    13 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK250788. Start and finish at Grindleford Railway Station. Head towards Bakewell and follow the signs to Baslow. Then take the A623 and turn off when you see the signs for Grindleford. It may be wise to car share due to the distance to get to the start of the walk.
We will be walking along Froggatt Edge, Curbar Edge, Baslow Edge and Birchen Edge. For the adventurous among you this may be an opportunity to try out your climbing skills, as the Edges have some of the best sports climbing in the country. We will also be following the River Derwent, giving us great views of the Edges we have just walked along. Lunch required.

Sunday, 11th October 2009   THE WICKENSTONES AND THE HEAD OF THE TRENT    13 miles  7 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SJ956578. From Leek take the A523 (Macclesfield Rd), then turn left onto the B5331 towards Rudyard. Just before the village, turn left onto the car park next to the miniature railway.
Starting at Rudyard Reservoir we'll ascend Biddulph Moor and then join the trail passing over the sandstone outcrop known mysteriously as the Wickenstones. Continuing on to Knypersley Reservoir and the Head of the River Trent, we'll scale Marshes Hill and then return across the moors towards the village of Horton before returning to Rudyard. Lunch required.

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK231814. Travelling along the A6187 from the Castleton Direction in the village turn right down Station Rd (B6001,by the Little John Pub) , then left up Oddfellows Rd, the car park is signposted and is by the swimming pool
From Hathersage we head up to and along Stanage Edge, and then return across moorland via Burbage Edge to Hathersage. Lunch required.

Sunday, 25th October 2009   BIRCHOVER AND THE NINE LADIES    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK237622. From Ashbourne take the A515, then turn right on the B5012, then left onto the B5056. Continue past the village sign for Winster and turn right up The Mires. Park across from the Red Lion pub, Birchover.
Starting off at Birchover we walk across Stanton Moor and the Nine Ladies megalithic stone circle. The walk includes some fine sections passing streams, fields and semi-woodland. Lunch required.

Saturday, 31st October 2009  GO-KARTING THE STOKE WAY!!!

Start Time: 7:00pm Start Time: 7:00pm at Fast Lane Karting, 151 king street, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 3ER From Leek - Follow A53 to Baddeley Green. Turn left to follow A5009 going straight through big crossroads junction (Lime Kiln lights) and turn left onto Victoria Road at next roundabout. Follow road up to top where it joins City Road / Victoria Place Link. Continue straight up and onto King Street. The venue is on your left hand side. From A500, turn off at junction with signing for Longton/Fenton. Go under railway bridge and straight up City Road to point where it joins Victoria Road. Go straight up onto King Street. FLK is on your left.
An evening of petrol karting at Fast Lane Karting in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent. The venue organises several events which state a specific minimum number of drivers with a cost per head of approx £30.00. They do, however, run bespoke events where you advise them of the number of drivers and the price you are willing to pay. For anyone interested I need to know numbers and how much you are willing to pay so I can contact them to arrange an event.

Sunday, 1st November 2009   BEAUDESERT AND THE CHASE    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK043126. From the A460 Cannock to Rugeley Road there is a sign for the Castle Ring. It's heading towards Rawnsley. Follow the signs to the Castle Ring car park.
A pleasant walk starting in the Beaudesert area of the Chase, at the Castle Ring Iron Age hill fort located on the highest point on the Chase. We will walk over to the Birches Valley Forest Centre, and the cafe, before looping round to the Chase Visitors Centre and heading back. Lunch required.

Sunday, 8th November 2009   BARLASTON, OULTON, STONE & WEDGWOOD    12 miles  6 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 9:30am    Grid Ref: SJ893383. Follow A34 from Stoke on Trent. Just after Tittensor, take left hand turn signposted for Barlaston. Follow the road past the Plume of Feathers, on the left over the bridge, and turn right for parking at the bottom of the Upper House drive.
A lovely, mainly flat, walk across Barlaston Downs to Oulton, across to Stone and then back along the canal to Wedgwood. Lunch required.

Sunday, 15th November 2009   LONGSTONE EDGE FROM EYAM    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK214767. Longstone Edge From Eyam Start/finish Parish Church of St Lawrence, Eyam. Take the A619 out of Bakewell. Turn on to the A623 passing through Stoney Middleton, then go right on to the B6521 and follow the signs for Eyam
Starting from the famous plague village of Eyam we shall be going up High Rake onto Longstone Edge and experiencing the lovely Derbyshire Dales. Some climbing is rewarded with fine views. Lunch required.

Sunday, 22nd November 2009   WOLFSCOTE DALE AND WETTON    11 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 11:00am    Grid Ref: SK128604. Follow the A515 to Buxton from Ashbourne and turn left at the signpost to Hartington; or take the B5053 from Cheadle, and once through Warslow, turn right at the signpost to Hartington. Park in the town square or on the surrounding roads.
A walk taking in the villages of Wetton and Alstonefield, returning via Wolfscote Dale and along the River Dove. Lunch required.

Sunday, 6th December 2009   KINDER DOWNFALL    9 miles  6 hrs   Grade 3

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK047869. Start and Finish at Bowden Bridge car park. Head towards Chaple-en-le-Frith on the A6. Turn left onto the A624 to Hayfield. Turn right then left and follow the road down a tree covered lane, with a big wall to your left. If you go past the church on the main road you have gone too far.
This is a classic route to Kinder Downfall and starts at Bowden Bridge car park, which was once the quarry where walkers met to set out on the famous mass trespass of 1932. Skirting Kinder Reservoir, the route climbs up to the Kinder Plateau. After a tour of the western rim of Kinder, which includes the Downfall, the route descends back to Hayfield. Lunch required.

Sunday, 13th December 2009   WETTON, CASTERN AND THROWLEY    9 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK099543. From Leek, take the A523 (Ashbourne Rd). Turn left at Bottomhouse onto the B5053 and travel towards Onecote. About a mile after Onecote turn right onto Parson's Lane, following the signs for Grindon. Travel through the village heading for the Manifold Valley and park at the Weags Bridge car park.
A varied walk combining lovely scenery and places of historic interest. Starting along the Manifold Way we'll ascend towards Wetton and travel past many tumuli and abandoned mine workings on the way to Musden Wood. Returning past the 15th century remains of Throwley Old Hall, we'll head towards Beeston Tor and then descend towards the car park. Lunch required.

Sunday, 20th December 2009   OAKAMOOR XMAS AFTERTHOUGHT    10 miles  5 hrs   Grade 2

Start Time: 10:00am    Grid Ref: SK052446. In Cheadle turn into Queen Street by The Alton Castle pub, and follow the B5417 towards Oakamoor. Coming down Church Bank into Oakamoor turn right into Mill Road, the Cark Park is on the right.
Although the 2009 official Walks Programme finished last week, so many people wanted going to come on walk this week, I decided to go official and add it to the website. So here is our Xmas after thought, a wander round Churnet Valley, taking in some excellent scenery and finishing at the pub in Oakamoor. Lunch required.

Points to Remember:
1. Please call the walk leader before the walk in case any details have changed.
2. Make sure that you are suitably dressed for the weather. Remember that some walks are on exposed high land and the weather can be cold and wet. Denim jeans are not suitable for high-level walks.
3. Dogs are welcome but only with the prior agreement of the walk leader
4. If the walk leader decides to shorten the walk then that decision is final and is not open to negotiation. The leader will only do this when there is a good reason for doing so.
5. Even if a walk does not state packed lunch, it is always advisable to bring something to eat and drink.
6. If transport is shared, please provide the driver with a share of the fuel costs.
7. Non RA members are welcome to join us for 3 walks before being asked to join the RA. There are no exceptions to this.
8. Regrettably, due to the nature of the programme, we are unable to accept children on our walks.
